Developed concurrently with the client’s main residence, the Riverbank Studio project restored the existing pool house and transformed it into a dynamic art studio and guest suite with remarkable views of the site’s natural landscape, the main house and the tennis court beyond. A modestly scaled Shingle Style structure with a U-shaped plan and traditional exterior details, the building’s restoration focused on the contrast between inside and outside. Exterior columns, molding and traditional details give way to a clean, minimal interior. An open, light-filled foyer draws the wooded landscape into the building and serves as the axis that divides two mirroring work and living areas. One wing of the studio houses the client’s workspace, work surface and storage cabinetry; small windows in the north and south walls provide a measured spread of natural light. The other wing of the studio provides a living and recreational space. Moreover, a powder room was added in the rear, generated by new interior framing and a glass door system.
